And they’re off …

The 2011 Irish championship has started. There is some excellent live coverage available from the organisers, the highly reputed e2e4 Chess, including live games for the first time ever in an Irish championship.

We gather all the information we have in a tournament report, which we’ll update continually while the championship unfolds.

July 10: Stephen Brady wins the Irish championship for the 7th time. Rory Quinn wins the weekender. July11: Eric Bennett earlier won the intermediate. Mark Finnigan won the junior.

July 3: The latest update reflects round 1 results and the round 2 draw.
July 3, later: Updated with round 2 results (all 13 games with decisive results!) and the round 3 draw.
July 3, later still: e2e4 Chess records yet another first in Irish chess by posting all games in pgn within hours (minutes?) of the end of play. The latest tournament report is updated to include these games (v0.31).
July 4: minor cleanup: added missing ratings, title (v0.32).
July 4, later: added results & games from round 3, and the draw from round 4 (v0.4).

July 5: added results & games from round 4 (one game score missing), and the draw for round 5 (v0.5). Also removed spurious extra moves from Cafolla-Short and Daly-Courtney in round 1: thanks to David McAlister for pointing these out.
July 5, later: added last game from round 4, corrected glitch on round 5 draw (v0.51).
July 6: added games from round 5 and the draw for round 6 (v0.6). July 6, later: corrected glitch in openings index, added byes column to crosstable (v0.61).
July 7: added games from round 6 and the draw for round 7 (v0.7). Also added tournament performance ratings (Pairings & ratings page) via an exact method: see Information > Sources and Notes for a description of the difference between this and the usual way.
July 8: added games from round7 and the draw for round 8 (v0.8).
July 9: a critical round today, with Stephen Brady almost (not quite!) certainly clinching the championship for a seventh time by winning a great game against Colm Daly. The report is updated with games from the first eight rounds and the draw for the final round. Also we have an interim report on the weekender, with results from the first three rounds (no games; please send if you have any and we’ll add them).
July 10: Stephen Brady secures his 7th championship with a quick draw. John Redmond wins against Colm Daly to finish second, Daire McMahon third. Updated with all games. July 10, later: Rory Quinn won the Weekender with a perfect 5/5. All results (but no games, unfortunately) in the updated weekender report.
July 11: Eric Bennett earlier won the Intermediate. A report is now available. (No games here either.)
