Notes
Ratings
  • FIDE ratings are from the April 2019 list.
  • ICU ratings are from the March 2019 list (which was the latest list when the event started).
Talking points
  • A player rated 1522 (FIDE) / 1626 (ICU) started with 3/3, recording wins against players rated 2252, 2183 and 2285 (FIDE). This caused considerable comment on Boards.ie. The results were subsequently changed to three losses and the player was not paired from round 6 onwards.
  • “Quack Quack!!”
  •
  • Ivan Baburin subsequently issued a detailed "report on cheating" and the ICU subsequently issued a five-year ban, as described in ICU Report on an incident at the Irish International Open 2019 (John McMorrow, ICU web site, September 13, 2019, revised Octber 21, 2019)
Errors & discrepancies
  • TWIC 1276 treated 8 games of Seán J. Murphy (b. 2003, FIDE ID 2512742, Cork C.C.) as played by Seán Murphy (b. 1962, FIDE ID 2503778, Elm Mount C.C.) (who also played in this event) (corrected in TWIC 1277)
  • TWIC 1276 gives the result of Mannion - Khairil, round 3, as 0-1, as originally recorded, rather than 1-0 as subsequently assigned
  • Chess-Results.com gives Yaakov Sokolinsky as “Sokolinksy, Yaakov” throughout
  • The score of Fitzsimons - Han, round 7, as given on live boards, and in TWIC, Chess24.com, and ChessBomb.com, makes no sense from 28... Be5 onwards, for at least a dozen ply or so
  • Buonanno - Flynn, round 9, was given on live boards, and in TWIC, Chess24.com and ChessBomb.com, with the moves 40. Rb5 Qe5 41. Rxe5 Kf8 42. Rb5, which cannot be correct, transposing to the position after 40. Rxg5+ Kf8 41. Rb5 as shown here
  • TWIC 1276 gives Fitzpatrick - Van Veelen, round 1, as 1. d4 1-0. Chess-Results.com gives the same moves but also notes that the game was a walkover. For this report the same convention is followed as is used for rating purposes: a game does not count unless at least one move has been made by each player.
