Notes
Key In "Pairings & results",
  • "age" denotes the player's age on his or her birthday that year (even if the birthday fell after the event)
  • "x-ch" denotes former Irish champions

  • "ch#" denotes the number of championships the player played in, including this one
Ratings
  • FIDE ratings are from the July 2013 list
  • ICU ratings are from the May 2013 list
Tie-break Since 1975, the ICU practice and/or policy was that two eligible tied players would share the title, but (since at least 1982) for three or more a tie-break would apply. In 1982 and 1996, three-way ties were resolved by tie-break to produce a single champion. For 1982, the tie-break method was progressive / cumulative.

The close finish and potential ties in 2012 resulted in extensive discussion during that event, the upshot of which was (apparently) that a tie between three or more eligible players would be resolved by Median Buchholz. (Whether this would result in a single champion, in line with previous practice, or two co-champions was not stated.) See Sources and Notes, tournament report for 2012 championship.

For v1.6 of this tournament report, the tie break was given as "For a tie between two players: no tie-break, title shared. For a tie between three or more players: Median Bucholz followed by Bucholz if required.", but no sources were given for this rule.
Annotations The Annotations page excludes games with light notes contributed by this website.
Discrepancies
  • Crichton - Daly, round 2, appeared on irishchesscogitations.com with White's 5th and 6th moves given as 5. d3, 6. Nge2, but on the tournament web site and in the games collection assembled by Tim Harding in the reverse order. The latter matches the version received from Martin Crichton (see Sources above), and is the one shown here.
  • Daly - Fox, round 3, appeared in two different versions in the ICU games archive, ICUids 31105 and 41702 (already present in version of February 25, 2016). The former version inserts the etxra moves 15... Bf8 16. Qc2 and then stops. The latter version must be correct.
  • Freeman - Crichton, round 3, appeared in two different versions in the ICU games archive, ICUids 30963 and 41703 (already present in version of February 25, 2016). The latter matches the version received from Martin Crichton (see Sources above). The first version has 18... Rad8, whereas the second has 18... Rfd8, and they are otherwise identical. The second (which is the one used in this tournament report) seems much more plausible, as with a rook still at f8, Whte could play 25. Nxf8+.
  • O'Rourke - Cormican, round 6, was 22 ply according to the versions on the tournament web site and (as of March 3, 2016) in the ICU games archive, but was 130 play in a version in a games collection assembled by Tim Harding (March 1, 2016). The discrepancy is probably due to a live boards failure and the shorter version is almost certainly incorrect
