The New Winawer Report: errata

Errors are inevitable; the only question is how they should be dealt with. The policy for The New Winawer Report will be to treat each issue as final once it is published. No revised versions will be prepared even if (or rather, when) errors are discovered. Errors will be gathered into the final issue of the year, along with an index and other supplemental material, and in the meantime a running list of errors will be maintained on this page.

Errata:

Volume 1 (issues 1-12, 2013), included in appendices to volume 1:

  • 1. Issue 2 (February 19, 2013): on p. 2, left column, Figure 2 should indicate Black to move.
  • 2. Issue 3 (March 19, 2013): on p. 2, left column, Figure 2 should indicate White to move.
  • 3. Issue 4 (April 19, 2013): the title of John Emms’ book is given incorrectly on p. 3, left column: it should read The Most Amazing Chess Moves of All Time (given correctly in the references).
  • 4. Issue 5 (May 19, 2013): on p. 1, right column, Figure 1 should indicate Black to move.
  • 5. Issue 5 (May 19, 2013): on p. 3, left column, Cobo-Ivkov was played in the 2nd Capablanca Memorial, not the 5th as given.
  • 6. Issue 5 (May 19, 2013): on p. 4, left column, “Shavardorj” should be “Sharavdorj”: GM Dashzeveg Sharavdorj (MGL).
  • 7. Issue 6 (June 19, 2013): “Demarre” should be “Démarre”: Jacques Démarre (FRA).
  • 8. Issue 9 (September 19, 2013): on p. 1, left column, Goh’s analysis was in the May 2009 ChessPublishing.com update, not in February. (Given correctly in issue 3.)
  • 9. Issue 9 (September 19, 2013): on p. 4, the references should include Zeuthen & Jarlnæs.
  • 10. Issue 10 (October 19, 2013): on p. 3, left column, the abbreviation used for Suetin’s book (FD-su) does not match the abbreviation given in the references (tFD-su).

Volume 1 (issues 1-12, 2013), not included in appendices to volume 1:

  • Issue 2 (February 19, 2013): on p. 2, right column, last paragraph, “Fig. 2” should read “Fig. 3”.
  • Issue 8 (August 19, 2013): on p. 4, Khalifman’s book is listed with an ISBN-13 number that has only 10 digits. The number listed is the ISBN-10. The ISBN-13 is 978-954-8782-46-3. The same error occurs in Contents and Indexes, p. I-12.
  • Issue 10 (October 19, 2013): on p. 2, left column, three lines above the diagram, there are two omitted moves: 27 Qf6+ Ke8. The line should read 22 … Rxg2! 23 Nxb7+ Ke8 24 Qh8+ Rg8 25 Qh5+ Kf8 26 Qe5 d4 27 Qf6+ Ke8 28 Rb1 Qd5 29 Be4 Qg5+.

  • Volume 1, Contents and indexes: on p. I-12, Khalifman’s book is listed as being referenced in issue 7. This should read issue 8.

Volume 2 (issues 13-24, 2014):

  • Issue 13 (January 26, 2014): on p. 4, references, “Blekhstin” should read “Blekhtsin” (given correctly p. 2, left column).
  • Issue 14 (February 28, 2014): on p. 3, left column, line 7, “27 … Nd6” should read “27 … Nd7”.

  • Issue 15 (March 31, 2014): on p. 2, last full paragraph in right column, two moves are missing. It should read “18 … Nxf1+ 19 Rxf1 Rxg2+ 20 Kc1 Ba6!, e.g. 21 Rc3 Rg1 22 Rxc5 Rxf1+ 23 Kd2 bxc5”, i.e., interspersing the moves 19 … Rxg2+ 20 Kc1.
  • Issue 15 (March 31, 2014): on p. 4, last row of table, “Qb5” should read “Qc5”.

  • Issue 22 (nominally October 31, 2014): on p. 3, right column, the actual game move order was (the slightly unusual, though it makes no essential difference) 18. … Rxg1 19. Nxg1 Bxc2 20. Qb5.
