Ratings
  • FIDE ratings are from the October 2002 list
  • ICU ratings are from the September 2002 list
Players Norman McFarland stepped in as a filler for James McDonnell, who took ill on the eve of the tournament, taking a half-point bye. McDonnell had to withdraw without playing a game.
Discrepancies
  • In the game MacDonald-Holmes (round 7), Holmes' scoresheet ends after 19. ... Kxf8, while MacDonald's adds 20. Na3. It is not clear which is correct (20. Na3, permitting 20. ... Bxd4, seems odd, but it's easier to see a played move being unrecorded than the converse).
  • The club affiliations given in the report and in the ICU September 2002 rating list differ for many players. The ICU lists four players as belonging to Clifton House C.C., but that club was not founded until late 2003. The clubs listed on the Pairings & results page follow the tournament report. In addition to the four players listed by the ICU as Clifton House (Tom Clarke, Danny Mallaghan, Desmond Moreland, Damien Cunningham), the other discrepancies were Fred MacDonald (North Belfast per ICU; QUB per Ulster Chess News and here), Stephen Scannell (Bangor / North Belfast), Damien Lavery (Bangor / R.V.H.), and Mohamed Saad (unaffiliated / Q.U.B.).
  • Stephen Scannell is given as "Steven Scannell" in the FIDE 2002 lists.
Incomplete games Douglas-Holmes is given in other sources to 32. ... e5. The extra moves here are from one of the scoresheets.
