Drogheda Congress 2026

The Drogheda Congress took place last weekend, with 115 players playing over four sections.

A full report for the Thomson Masters has been added here. Tarun Kanyamarala and Jacob Flynn tied for first, each with an unbeaten 5/6, with the former taking the trophy on tie-break, ahead of a relatively strong field that also included the recently in form Oleg Artemenko, Colm Daly, Trisha Kanyamarala, Jason Liu, Oisín O’Cuilleanáin, and the English IM Aaravamudhan Balaji. Live boards were available for all games.

In addition, many games were available from live boards for the O’Boyle Championship (1st-3rd Jacob Nelson (1st on tie-break), George White, Ilia Smoliarenko) (48 games), the Fox Major (1st Aken Pinitha Palihawadana) (also 48 games), and the Murray Challenger (1st Sam Keogh) (35 games). All these games have been added to the games archive here.

[Update, June 10, 2026: The report has been updated to add a reference to the tournament report from the ICU web site, and also to add the finish of two games that were cut off prematurely in the original Lichess pgn file.

One of these new games was a fascinating encounter between Andrey Ivanov and Tarun Kanyamarala in round 1, previously cut off at move 14. I have not added notes; it seems from a rough look that there were large swings of fortune during the game.]
