Irish championship players

The lists of Irish championship players have been updated to reflect the 2025 championship, to make corrections, and to add some details.

The full list is available in alphabetical order and in descending order of number of championships played.

Thirteen players made their débuts in 2025, taking the total to 612 players in all. Of these, 52 have been Irish champion.

Full names have been added for Dr. William Crawford Palmer, who played in the 1889 championship, and who was discussed recently here by David, and for S. A. (Samuel Allen) French (1940), correcting a misidentification as also discussed here recently.

One more correction was the player given as “M. F. Falvey” (1959) here previously. Though at least one report on that championship identified him that way, it seems he was Michael J. Falvey of Milford C.C.

Details were added for several other players:

“D. Cudmore (1889)” was Daniel Cudmore, 1849-1891, who was a founder member of Rathmines C.C. in 1888.

“–. Jennings (1889)” was T. Jennings, who played for National C.C. in the first Armstrong Cup.

“P. A. Donagh (1946)” was Patrick A. Donagh.

“W. K. Glass (1958)” was William Kenneth (Ken) Glass, 1937-2023, born in Belfast, who was later a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at U.C.D., spending almost forty years with the department.

“A. S. Russell (1958)” was Alan Russell, who played for Ireland in the 1958 Olympiad in Munich.

“P. Mulgrew (1966)” was Paddy Mulgrew.

“J. Simpson (1966)” was John Simpson of Derry C.C.
